Turn the Sidewalk into Your Canvas

Each spring, artists transform the sidewalks of downtown Spring Hope, North Carolina, into a vibrant outdoor gallery during Spring Hope Chalk It Up! A sidewalk chalk art contest sponsored by the Spring Hope Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the Artists Art Center.

From experienced street artists to first-time chalk creators, participants of all ages are invited to bring imagination, color, and creativity to the sidewalks of downtown. This event is your chance to showcase your talent and be part of one of Spring Hope’s most colorful community celebrations

Visitors are encouraged to watch artwork come to life as pavements are transformed into stunning temporary masterpieces, and stop into our local small businesses to shop, eat, and explore what Spring Hope has to offer.

Who Can Participate

Spring Hope Chalk It Up! welcomes artists of all backgrounds and skill levels.

Come out to celebrate art, creativity, and community participation, making it an engaging outdoor art experience.

Event Day Experience

On the day of the event, plan to:

Check in and receive your assigned chalk square location and supplies.
Creating your artwork throughout the event.
Interact with visitors and fellow artists. Have your work voted on by event judges.

We encourage you to make a day of it by exploring Spring Hope’s charming downtown, enjoying meals at local restaurants, grabbing coffee or treats, and shopping at nearby small businesses. Supporting local shops and eateries helps to strengthen the community and make events like Spring Hope Chalk It Up! even more special. Visitors can walk the sidewalks to see art evolve from simple sketches into vibrant street masterpieces.

Join the Artists Who Color Spring Hope

Spring Hope Chalk it Up! is a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community spirit. If you love art, color, and bringing joy to the streets, we invite you to grab your chalk and join us. Spaces may fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged.

Register to Participate

Artists who would like to compete or participate must register in advance. Spaces are limited, and artist squares are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no registration fee at this time, and materials and supplies are provided at check-in.

Featured Professional Chalk Artists

Are you a professional chalk artist? If so, we would love to highlight you and your work at the Spring Hope Chalk It Up! We invite you to inspire visitors and emerging artists alike. Demonstrate art techniques such as perspective drawing, color layering, and large-scale compositions. Meet small businesses in Eastern NC and develop opportunities within our art community. Featured artists will be spotlighted online, through social media, and in local publications.
